Today’ breaking news found in “The Washington Post” and on the website of Tech Crunch can concern everyone who is interested in tidying his lists of followers. The new Lists feature is an opportunity to measure the quality of Twitter users easier. Thus the next outcome of Twitter progress (lately we have read about rocketing growth) will be more realistic, taking quality and quantity into account.
Tech Crunch explains step-by-step all the procedure and as you can read – listing your followers is not easy. Now Tweet Deck or other similar programs will have competition because of availability of this feature directly on Twitter. If you dislike the twirling sound of Tweet Deck and what is worse – has too little memory to run a separate program – this new function will be fantastic.
Unfortunately this feature is not available yet. More. some users commenting the article on techctunch.com are concerned about the privacy of their lists. For example Bob says: “Are the lists public? Because I want to sort my Twitter feed into lists like ‘Social media fellatio’ and “Journalists who hate journalism” but you know, some of these folks might get offended over being on such lists.”
From the viewpoint of political correctness such an obvious labeling the lists in the way may offend some groups, races or nations could be dangerous, not to mention vulgar language. On the other hand, Twitter is a free medium and you have the right of free choice to define the criteria which you follow choosing the list and your followers to place there.
Fortunately, Rob Marquardt (@someToast) has replied “They’re public or private, your choice.” (techcrunch.com). This means that you and only you decide about the feedback what your list will receive. Thus even if you can show your preferences selectively, it is your choice which can either harm or spread positive spirit on Twitter.
What will really happen? You will assess Twitter lists trying this feature as soon as it is available. Then we will see to what extend it will have turned to be positive or negative step in Twitter’s development.
